I only have little flashes of memories from back then.
The barn we were not allowed to play in.
The staircase we were not allowed to go up.

I remember my grandfather sitting in a chair,
silent and solemn.
I sat on the floor with my sister and looked up at him.
I saw his fake leg.
I knew it was fake.

He had a cane with four legs
that stood next to his chair.
He wore polyester pants.
He was tall and thin and silent.
